Here are some pictures from my first months at the Academy

We do alot of pushups. Every time we do anything wrong or forget something it is 10 pushups. Some people forget alot of stuff. The instuctors say we will either be great cops or be tough enough from doing thousands of pushups to make up for it.

We run a few times a week for about 3-6 miles

We have different dress codes and we are inspected in each one to make sure we look sharp.

You can see the excitement in our faces as we sit through another criminal statute class. Todays class is 8 hours on Burglary.

This scenario was a psycho farmer rampaging through town on an armored tractor he built himself. They also threw in an exposion at the natural gas depot.

Inspection time, that means pop quiz time, that means writing memos on what we forgot to study time.

Over the eight foot wall...through the cement pipe...crawl through the sand pit...circle the cones

Jump through the window...over the chain link fence...over the retaining wall...carry (in my case drag) the 175 lb dummy to safety...all in a days work.

No this is not my new ride...This day we had to find all the little bags of dope the instructors hid throughout their cars. If you missed a bag...pushups.

Me being handcuffed

And doing some cuffing of my own.

Recovering from the previous stinger and waiting for the next pressure point to be called out.

Not so nice handcuffing.

I've been wearing mine for a while now at the jail, but this was everyone elses first day wearing their uniform.

A little obstacle to get the heart rate up. This is the steel target range. We shoot flangable ammo which turns to powder when it hits the metal targets. The targets are on frames of different sizes and fall over when hit. As you are running through the tires the instructor calls out the color you will be shooting at. Targets of various sizes are spread throughout the space and there are objects you can use for cover like mail boxes, barrels, mounds of dirt, and fire hydrants.

I'm going for the green targets. I'm about 15 yards away. Targets are about 5 inches across.

That's a pretty gun you got there.

You can just make out the green arm sticking out right in the middle of the picture above my head.

Never knew what hit him.

Whoever has the biggest gun automatically becomes the lead firearms instructor.
